Brooks, SJ, the longest serving president of the College of the Holy Cross, died on Monday, July 2, 2012, at UMass Memorial Hospital—University Campus in Worcester, after complications from lymphoma. There are 1.4 million Catholic men and women in the US military today. The need for chaplains in just as great as it was in the 1940s and Jesuits from the New England Province continue to respond. Four Jesuits Honored at Commencements |

Four Jesuits from the New England Province were honored by several Catholic and Jesuit universities during the 2012 commencement season. Schools invited Jesuits both to give commencement addresses to inspire the graduating students and also to receive honorary degrees in recognition of their accomplishments and work.
Jesuits Fr. Jim Martin, Fr. Joe Appleyard, Fr. Michael McFarland, and Fr. Richard Clifford received honorary doctorates from seven Catholic and Jesuit universities. Fr. Jim Martin also gave the commencement address at three universities. Read the whole story and get photos and video.

Novena of Grace Starts March 4 |

The Novena of Grace takes place from March 4 - 12. The first Novena of Grace of Francis Xavier, which is nine days of prayer, is said to have taken place in Goa, India in 1615, when a boy, crippled from birth, was cured. After Francis Xavier was named a Saint on March 12, 1622, the Novena of Grace grew in popularity around the world. It is traditional to pray the Novena for a particular intention: to ask for what you desire from God. Pray for your own needs, those of your loved ones, or the needs of the world.

Young Jesuits have recently begun publishing news and commentary on everything from pop culture and celebrities to Jesus and the Church, called The Jesuit Post. It includes news articles, essays, and regular columns or blogs from several Jesuits.
"...This site is about Jesus, politics, and pop-culture, it’s about the Catholic Church, sports, and Socrates. It’s about making the case for God (better: letting God make the case for Himself) in our secular age," according to Paddy Gilger, SJ, editor in chief of The Jesuit Post.
