Ten Jesuits Profess First Vows

Ten Jesuits of the Maryland, New England and New York Provinces pronounced First Vows in the Society of Jesus on August, eight in Syracuse, New York, and two in Jamaica.  Fathers provincial James Shea, Myles Sheehan, and David Ciancimio celebrated the liturgy at Holy Cross Church in New York on August 14. First vows were pronounced by Ricardo Avila, SJ; Patrick Nolan, SJ; Keith Maczkiewicz, SJ; Brian Konzman, SJ;  Vincent Marchionni, SJ; Kevin Hughes, SJ; Richard Nichols, SJ, and Timothy O'Brien, SJ. Garvaundo Antonio Hamilton, SJ, and Dayne Malcolm, SJ, professed first vows at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Kingston, Jamaica. Fr. Peter McIsaac, SJ, superior for the Jamaica region, celebrated Liturgy.

The occasion marked the conclusion of two years of formation as novices that included a 30-day retreat experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, apostolic experiments in a variety of Jesuit ministries, and study of the history and Constitutions of the Society. The perpetual vows of poverty, chastity and obedience are a commitment of their lives to serve God, the Church and those to whom they are missioned for the greater glory of God.
